An analytical inventory of the strengths, potentials and shortages in addressing violence against women (VAW) by the key stakeholders and decision makers concerned was done through the perspectives of gender equality and human rights of women, as well as applying such international instruments and standards as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW); the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women; and the campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women, initiated by the United Nations Secretary-General.
